Today I’m sharing a Scandinavian Christmas Kitchen. While I love neutral and non-traditional approaches to holiday decor, in my heart it always feels more festive to have the traditional red and green in my Christmas decorating. So I decided to stick to a very simple approach of red and white with little pops of green, and some classic Scandinavian holiday motifs. I can’t wait to show you more!
Today marks week 1 of the Christmas segment in the Seasons of Home Series hosted by Kristen of Ella Claire Blog. You may remember back in September we shared one room in our homes each week, decorated for fall. Now we are in November and this week we are all sharing our kitchens! Be sure to come back every Tuesday in November for the continuation of the series!
I started with some red gingham curtains that I installed over my sink. My sewing machine is out of commission so I just used fabric glue! I folded edges over, creased them, then glued it down. It only took 2 yards for my window and I love the festive (albeit temporary) pop of color it adds to my kitchen.
Once the curtains were up, I removed my aqua blue jars from the shelves and replaced them with some ceramic houses (Target dollar spot) and bottle brush trees (Joann). I love the glowy, monochromatic look.
Next to my stove I added a little fresh rosemary– they smell is wonderful and reminds me to add it to meat, potatoes, veggies– whatever else I’m cooking!
I love having fresh cake on my kitchen counter. It just feels like the holidays when baked goods are so accessible! haha
I cheated and picked up a few coffee cakes from Trader Joe’s because they taste soooo dang good, and it saves me the trouble and mess. 😉
Some of the things I love about Scandinavian Christmas decor is how natural and simple it is. Natura,l in that lots of elements from nature are used and nothing is over-done. It’s almost intuitive that certain elements feel Christmas-y without spelling it out. Some tin bells and a berry wreath alongside a realistic-looking mini pine tree is all this area needed.
I found these ceramic candle hurricanes with Scandinavian snowflakes on them at Joann Fabrics, and they are the perfect way to illuminate this little corner.
Some bare branches from my backyard stuffed into the simple white ceramic vase add just a bit of contrast and sculptural interest.
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of my farmhouse kitchen decorated for Christmas!
Next week I’ll be sharing a Christmas tablescape for week 2 of the Seasons of Home Series!
Meanwhile, be sure to check out my lovely and talents friends’ kitchens decorated for Christmas!

I live in Australia, what is a Trader Joe’s if they make cakes like that I want one, great idea about the kitchen.
Rachel says
Haha! Trader Joe’s is a national chain grocery store that sells lots of organic food. They are small but have great products and really great prices. Their bakery section is always delicious and they have the best priced fresh flowers!

Yes! They were from Joann Fabric Store!

Love your kitchen and back splash. Question..the ceramic houses were those this year at Target $spot? I need to do the outdoor branch idea.
Rachel says
Yes they were!
Susan says
What is “Target Spot?” Are you in the USA? Could I find them on line? Thanks.
Rachel says
Target has a dollar spot where everything is around $1— these particular houses were $3 but in that same area. Unfortunately they don’t offer these exact ones online, but they offer other, nicer ones, online!

Love it – the pops of red on all that white are just beautiful. The red lanterns are stunning. The red checked curtains give your kitchen the classic look of country. I love those snowflake candle holders! Your baked items with the fresh fruit and rosemary sure are inviting. Great job.
