I was totally committed to posting more after my last post, but then life slapped me in the face and I found myself spending every waking moment trying to nurse back to health my youngest. She got a virus, then caused as asthma attack and we ended up in the hospital for 3 days. No fun, that’s for sure. But it was very memorable and now she is attached to me more than ever!
Her birthday was the very next day after she was discharged, so we decided to post-pone her birthday party until she was 100% healthy again (1 week later). It was supposed to be a simple picnic at a friend’s yard out in the country, but the weather did no cooperate. It was FREEZING! Like 45 degrees and windy. Not the warm spring evening I was hoping for. So plan B kicked in and we took it inside.
I wanted decor to be simple yet pretty and affordable, utilizing as much as possible decor items I already had. So I made several pink tissue paper poms…
filled some of my blue Ball mason jars with fresh hydrangeas, and served pink lemonade in quart jam jars, fresh strawberries, cupcakes…
served a pink ombre cake (my friend made it)…
and made these seriously delicious and easy ham and cheese sliders! Recipe on my friend’s blog HERE.
Their light fixture above the table totally stole the show for me though! Her husband found the pieces, designed and MADE this!
He took the hay trolley from their family’s old barn, oiled it up, attached it to a long beam, then used rope to suspend an old wooden ladder. Then, they found some garden lights at Target and attached them all along the length of the ladder.
What I love about this idea is besides the fact from looking totally rustic and awesome, it allows you to decorate in new and creative ways for all the different seasons. She placed artificial vines on the top and hung paper Easter eggs along it. Can’t you just imagine glittered ornaments hung among some pine boughs at Christmastime?
Look at that little ham! And I was so pleased to find a ombre dress to match her cake! 🙂
