A Dream and A Vision

August 17, 2013 Rachel 6 Comments

So I wanted to talk a bit more about the Vintage Market Days coming up! It is located at Rocking J Ranch in High Ridge, MO which isn’t as far away as you may think! It’s only 5-10 minutes from the Antire Rd exit off of I-44! If you come from the city that exit is only about 5 minutes from the I-270 and I-44 intersection. I’m so excited about this location! Authentic barn on a ranch without having to drive too far out into the country.

I’m really looking forward to meeting some other talented artists/designers out there that do the same sort of thing I do! I don’t get a lot of opportunities to talk to other local furniture refinishers, especially shop owners. That is something that is on the horizon for us… within the next couple years we want to open up a shop! Who knows how that will happen and right now it seems impossible, but ya gotta dream big, right? 🙂
I also hope to meet some blog readers! Connect a face with a name and answer any questions! I’m wanting to do something fun, like MMS did at the Luckett’s Fair… some sort of fun mystery object with a prize. Or a giveaway… We will see. Any suggestions are welcome! 🙂

On Friday, there is an early buying event where you get first pick at all the goods from all the vendors! There will be food a-plenty and a live band that evening! So much fun and incentive to come out early!

Here are some pictures of the ranch and location of where the whole VMD will take place taken by the Red Posie (another vendor there):

And here is a sketch of what I want my space to look like (more or less):
The back two tall pieces (highboy and shelf unit) I haven’t found yet. I’m flexible on the type of furniture they are, I just want them to be tall and narrow, visually. I also have several other pieces I want to sell there, but they will replace others once they sell. I have another table (more oval in shape) and I have a cabinet, and I have end tables… but this is the vision.
Looking at this makes me excited, but also slightly overwhelmed with how much work I have left to do!
When my husband asked me to make a list of everything we need to buy/refinish before VMD, I drew this picture! I’m totally a visual person and it helped me focus.
So what do you think? Should I move anything around or reconsider some parts (talking to you seasoned booth owners out there…)? Do you sketch things out or write lists?

So excited you’ll be a vendor too! You’ve been a great inspiration for me to finally get going with my furniture. Your plan looks fantastic. I can’t wait to meet you and see your booth in real life!

Love the “Vision” I’ve put in a request for the weekend off and if they don’t give it to me I will probably be too sick to work on Friday 🙂 Can’t wait to see your work in person and meet you!!!

I draw a pic and make lists! My husband and I started doing local STL shows last year. I would be happy to chat with you! (He builds tables and I paint furniture). It’s alot of work, but fun. We’ve learned alot about what types of shows are good/worth it.

We’re bummed to be missing VMD. We’ll be on vacation. Good luck!
