Block Printed Leaves

September 13, 2017 Rachel 9 Comments

This past weekend I pulled out some printmaking supplies I had bought over a year ago and decided to make some block printed leaves for fall. They turned out so cute I decided to offer them as a free printable for those who want to decorate using these cute leaves.

Additionally, I’m participating in a Free Fall Printable Blog Hop hosted by Kristen of Ella Claire Blog. At the bottom of this post you will find 25+ printables for you to choose from!

If you want to make your own lino block carvings, these are the supplies you need (affiliate links used):

lino block

lino handle with various size cutter bits

water-soluble block printing ink

brayer

ink plate (or plexiglass– basically something smooth to spread the ink out on)

Cardstock blank cards  or Printmaking paper

OR you can buy a whole kit here!

I drew 6 different varieties of leaves, drew them onto small squares of lino block, and carved out each one.

It doesn’t actually take too long, especially because I used a thicker and softer type of linoleum.

Printing them on paper takes practice to get the right amount of ink… too much and the block print can slide around or the ink can squeeze out the edges. Too little and the print looks uneven or transparent in some places.

I ended up liking the look of uneven ink transfer because it reminded me of the changing colors of the leaves. With the black ink and white background, it gave it the impression of varied tones.

I’m so pleased with how these turned out! I practiced printing quite a bit and decided to cut out and use some of the printed leaves as a garland! More of that to come this Friday where  I will be sharing 2 fall mantel/entry decoration ideas!

Please note, these block printed leaves are for PERSONAL USE ONLY. Please don’t print them or download them if you intend to copy, alter, reproduce them for personal or commercial gain.

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful leaf prints. Love that you made these leaves with block printing, haven’t done that for years. How clever of you to make the prints yourself.
    Have wonderful weekend

Such a great idea! I work on a campus with a horticulture dept and lots of trees, so could get some unique prints!

Hello, I just came across your website and was thinking about downloading a printable, but got confused while reading your statement of ownership. “Please note, these block printed leaves are for PERSONAL USE ONLY. Please don’t print them or download them if you intend to copy, alter, reproduce them for personal or commercial gain”. Does this mean that I can’t use the leaves separate in the corners of a card? Please let me know, otherwise I will not download the print until I find out. They are truly beautiful. Thank you in advance.

If the card will be sold for gain or used on some business card, then you cannot use them for that purpose. If the card will be sent out like a greeting card, then you can use it.
