Console Table Redo

January 22, 2013 Rachel 2 Comments

I picked up this console table that was in perfect condition (literally!) and solid oak. I know just what I wanted to do!
I used stripper to remove the heavy layers of varnish and spotted finish (an 80’s finish I’m pretty sure), then sanded it down and stained it dark walnut. First time, I didn’t sand it down evenly and the stain took darker in some places and lighter in others. So I had to re-sand it (only took me 15 minutes to re-sand it) and re-stained it with ebony, wiped quickly away. Ebony is supposedly a black stain, but I love how it looks more like a dark walnut and still shows the grain of the wood.
Then I painted the legs Annie Sloan Old White and distressed on the edges.

Pretty cute, if I do say so myself, and easily combines with most any decor out there!
