Union Jack dressers have been making rounds on the internets for awhile. I think Miss Mustard Seed was one of the first, and she did 2 beautiful ones in traditional red, white a blue colors. I’d been wanting to find a dresser I could afford for awhile and do my own version. So when I found this old rickety one for cheap I scooped it up. It was already this teal color and it had a couple layers of paint below it, so instead of painting the whole thing, I just painted the design on top with Old White and Duck Egg Chalk Paint. Most people I saw online that tried this, did an exact measurement design. I didn’t. I kinda like the ‘imperfect’ look and I happen to have a projector, so I just printed out a picture of the British flag and sketched away on the dresser-front. I then clear waxed everywhere (because it was took shiny before anyway!) and distressed it. I love how it turned out and I had a girl come get it quick, and tons of people text me about it. SO, that clued me in that there would definitely be a market for dressers like this one in the future.
Oh, also the knobs were replaced and were much too new and shiny, so I went to hobby lobby and picked up these pretty little clear glass knobs. Aren’t they perfect?
This dresser was both a blessing and a curse. I felt I was able to be more creative with this piece, and it gave me confidence to take a little more creative license with future pieces, but it also started my addiction to dressers! Coffee & end tables are great and all, but I really have much more fun doing other pieces now!
