Today I’m going to share with you a simple and beautiful craft for any room that needs a pretty pop of color, but maybe you don’t want to worry about maintenance of, oh say… keeping it alive? haha! Crepe paper flowers are not something I would normally think of using, but when my best friend, Lucy from Craftberry Bush, came out with a new Crepe Paper Flower craft kit offered at Joann Fabric, I just had to give it a try!
The kit has absolutely everything you need besides a hot glue gun and scissors, which was maybe my favorite aspect, because it is a total buzzkill having to go buy an extra piece or part for a kit that you thought had everything you needed.
Not only that? Lucy did an adorable video tutorial which was SO helpful. The printed and pictorial instructions were pretty straight forward, but there are some little nuance tips that make it go easier when you see a professional demonstrating. Lucy also gives info about terminology, how to work that blasted floral tape (which, if you are me, takes practice), and other extra bits about assembly that made the whole process a piece of cake! I made the flowers with my mom while she was in town visiting, and we had a crafternight instead of a crafternoon, which included lots of laughs, peppered with hot-glue-gun-burn-yelps. 😉
There is enough to make 7 flowers, but I stopped after 6 and used only 3 in the little bouquet that went in my daughter’s room:
I stuck in the vase a couple of small real flowers and leaves, just to give a little accent color.
In the product packaging, the flowers were styled with real roses and what-not, but these are so pretty they don’t NEED it, ya know? Especially in a girl’s room… They are great because they look beautiful both ways, so it offers more versatility.
And even though I made them large flowers, there are templates for small flowers as well!
When I photographed these last Saturday, I never noticed how much warm light floods her room in the afternoon, until this moment when I was capturing this lovely scene.
Since I made over my girl’s room earlier this summer, I made some subtle changes that make a big difference (to me at least) in how it all works together.
I propped the lamp on some books, for height variation, added the white vase (purely for the height/color/texture), and re-draped the garland a little.
Then in the bookcase I put all the baskets on the middle and bottom shelves, and then left the top shelf for decorative items that are things she likes/are keepsakes, provide some function (metal basket holding her favorite toy– my little ponies), and are child-proof.
I also bought this beautiful piece of art from Just Add Sunshine to her door. It is words to the song, You Are My Sunshine, and is one I sing to her often before she goes to bed.
One last shot of this pretty vignette…

Love it so much. Thank you. The room looks amazing! That little reading nook is so dreamy and you know I LOVE that globe…xo
I happened upon your site when looking up tips for staging booths and LOVED your write up on how to sell out. I too am a mom with little kids and do this on the side so I can be home with them. I love your talent and most of all appreciate how you integrate your faith into your site 🙂 I am encouraged to see other believers staying true to the Most important things! Keep up the great work 🙂
Such a fantastic room for your daughter. I can see all the love and effort you poured into it.
