A Fall Cozy Tablescape

Today is week 3 in the Farmhouse Holiday Series hosted by Ella Claire Blog and Country Living, and today I am sharing a cozy fall tablescape. AllModern sponsored this post and I’m excited to share with you how I created a colorful setting for a fall family gathering.

It started with my color palette that I’ve been using throughout my home this season: deep blue, golden yellow, green, with neutral tones of gray, natural wood and white.

I really wanted to create a centerpiece that could be used throughout the season without having to go buy fresh pumpkins or flowers. I have to give a shout-out to Kristen or giving me a fresh pair of eyes and suggesting the wooden board to anchor the centerpiece. It made a huge difference and it made a lot of sense since it mimics the AllModern Acacia Wood Dinner Platters beneath each place setting.

I described yesterday in my home tour post how I put it together, but it really is so simple: 2 candle groupings of varying heights, velvet pumpkins (you could use fresh if you wanted), all on top of some fresh fall leaves. I think this set-up would look gorgeous with the deeper colors of later autumn leaves as well:  burgundy, red, rusty orange, and deep yellow.

On top of the wood chargers, I selected the AllModern Pfaltzgraff ‘Birch’ White dishes, and alternated with a pretty teal colored salad plate from the AllModern Dansk ‘The Burbs Carved Medium’ dish set (sold out but similar HERE). They both have a similar carved edge, but the layered look makes each one stand out a little more. Additionally, the colors and durability of them allow me to use them all the time– not just for fancy meals.

To play off the teal-blue of the plates, I brought in my velvet pillows from World Market that are the same color, and a flannel throw I found at HomeGoods.

The fun thing about using fall leaves is that you can cut them from your yard or from a park and they instantly add beautiful color without spending any money. These ones lasted about 24 hours before they started curling a little from drying out. I still thought they looked pretty dried, and I left the table set up like this all week!

I’ve had some clear goblets for awhile that were always my go-to for fancy dinners with our family, so I wanted to try something new with color. I chose these AllModern Villeroy & Boch Wine Glasses in green. I love the texture they have and their size and weight is perfect for even my kids to use. Typical wine glasses are much to0 fragile for my kids, but it is always fun to have a fancy glass that they can use too.

I had originally planned on using the AllModern WingTaiTrading Cotton Garlands as part of my centerpiece but each garland was huge and bright white. I wanted a more creamy white on the table, so I opted to drape them over my secretary filled with my new dishes. I think they add a whimsical and festive element to this spot, don’t you?

So, my favorite part about this tablescape is when the candles are lit. Pictures don’t really do it justice as I’m still learning how to properly capture candlelight. It is SO cozy…. and romantic even!

I’m tempted to re-create this tablescape outside once I clean things up on the patio. Can’t you just imagine the pretty candlelight on a farm table under the twinkling lights around our pergola? Warm blankets on benches, fall leaves rustling on the ground, a close-by fire-pit crackling…. I’m getting carried away here writing this and now I’m brainstorming a new outdoor dining table….

My final choice from AllModern was the Alexandra Ferguson Striped Napkins in Graphite. They were a bit of a splurge, but I LOVED their classic look and the attention they call to each place setting. I also decided to add some gray linen napkins from World Market with wooden napkin holders (thrifted) to coordinate with the wood chargers and gray velvet pumpkins.

I am obsessed with the outside texture of the bowls from the Pfaltzgraff ‘Birch’ dishes. They have an almost rustic texture juxtaposed with a classic and refined shape that makes a subtle but beautiful design statement.

The past couple weeks I shared a couple shots of my youngest, Kaila, in my Farmhouse Kitchen post, and then my middle son, Alex, in my Farmhouse Family Room post, and this week, I promised Owen, my oldest, he would get his turn to “be famous” on my blog. 🙂 They are such good sports, and they really respect how much work I put into our home. They know it means a lot to me and they try to take care of things. I’ve taught them where it’s okay to play, make messes, and go wild… and where/when to be a little more careful. If you can believe it, I had this table set up like this for 4 days last week before I finally finished with where I wanted things to go and took pictures… and during that time the kids didn’t use the table at all. They ate at our island but didn’t complain or say anything about it the whole time! haha! It was cute and funny at the same time– they are definitely blogger’s kids!

Owen is my fellow food lover. He also really enjoys trying new foods. He is my one adventurous child in that aspect, and he always has been. A few weeks ago he got addicted to Cupcake Wars on Netflix and watched the entire season (or 2), then when he was all done he wanted to create his own cupcake masterpiece. He came up with chocolate cupcakes, with a marshmallow filling, and coconut frosting with toasted coconut garnish. It was delicious actually and it really surprised me with how he is growing up!

I have never made butternut squash soup but when Jeanne Oliver gave her recipe a couple weeks ago, I wanted to give it a try with this table setting because of the beautiful yellow color it has. I served it with some rosemary french bread and Owen loved everything.

Kaila insisted on lighting the candles for several days because she loved the ambiance, and I gotta say… I agree!
