I was sent this old painting from Bre of Rooms For Rent:
I liked the frame… it is solid wood (even though it had a plaster-type finish that was chipping and crumbling off). And I liked the autumnal colors of the painting. And that was about it. 🙂 I knew I could repurpose the frame into something that I have seen numerous times on Pinterest, but instead I decided to utilize my art skills. I was inspired by the post, “How to Draw a Pumpkin With Chalk Pastel” by my friend Lucy from Craftberry Bush, so I chose to create something seasonal with chalk pastels.
I had SO much fun drawing these. It has been too long since I did anything with a medium other than paint!
So are you ready to see my makeover??

TA-DA!
I did NOT replace the canvas that was existing… I just painted on top, then drew with the pastels.
I will be doing another post on Wednesday on the few simple steps I took to transform an old, out-dated painting, into beautiful, seasonal art!
I spent a couple hours on Saturday playing around with all the different staging possibilities and recruiting the opinions of my friends. I eventually decided on a little afternoon fall tea party of sorts. Those gold-rimmed china teacups and saucers were the one thing I inherited from my grandma, the little silver monogrammed teaspoons were a thrift store find, and the apples and crunchy, colorful leaves, made me think of warm apple tea or cider with a good friend on a crisp, cool day.
I’ve left this vignette up since Saturday, and I think I won’t be taking it down anytime soon! It is too pretty to look at in my dining room.
And p.s. that amazing little blue chest is one I brought home from VMD. Don’t you just love that color? It is Artissimo by Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint, with Ironstone details and a white wax finish.
Here are all the participants of the #swapitlikeitshot FLEA MARKET SWAP! There are some AMAAAAZING makeovers out there, so get cozy! 🙂 I gave to Heather from Queen of Everything, so MAKE SURE you go check out here makeover and give her some love!
