When my beautiful friend, Kristen, from Ella Claire Blog, organized her fall printable hop and invited me, I was both excited but dreading it! Haha! Excited because I love being able to participate in something so fun with so many talented girls. But dreading it because I, for real, struggle with graphic design. I need to take a class… because it just takes me foreverrrrrr to create something so simple. Well, this time, I just kept thinking, why not draw or paint something? It is something that comes a little easier for me, having spent years in college and before, practicing that skill.
So last week I pulled out my brushes and grabbed some craft paint (even though I prefer oils… they take too long to dry) and painted this cute little fall scene. I had a couple of inspiration pics to start from, so I first sketched what I wanted with a pencil on a gessoed piece of plywood. Then it was just a matter of mixing colors and bringing the image to life.
I’m a little more drawn to impressionist art, so my paintings are often slightly messy with layers/mixes and spots of color. Creating the feeling of “fall home” was more important to me than getting all the details perfect.
I put this in a matted frame that I had and it now resides right by my own blue front door!
The leaves haven’t officially turned the beautiful, brilliant shades of gold, perssimon, and rust, so I had to use a faux branch, but I love how it looks with the aqua vase.
The books I snagged at the thrift store this past week and seem to be the entire collection of Kathleen Norris books! I was really only concerned with the pretty covers 😉
This is an angle I don’t often show in my house because it has been a work in progress. I still will probably move some things around here before fall home tours in a couple weeks, but for now it is a bright, happy spot in my front room.

Hi Rachel,
Think this is my 2nd time to visit. I came here last week and copied your lovely printable, and
then accidentally closed your blog before I could write down where I got it………….
So fortunately I just came across it again this morning, so got the info cause it will probably show
up in my Fall decorating that I post at some point. So wanted to give credit where credit is due.
This really is such a beautiful work of Art, I loved it the moment I saw it………..thank you for being

Your painting is so beautiful. I love there are other colors besides red and orange. It will look wonderful in my house.
Those books are amazing. Your so lucky to have found them in a thrift store. I would have snatched them up as well.
I love old doors, and this is a beautiful painting of one! Thank you! I love to read old Kathleen Norris books. Walls of Gold and Josselyn’s Wife are pretty good, but I haven’t read the others. My favorites are The Rich Mrs. Burgoyne, and Mother.
Thank you for sharing your gorgeous painting! Craft paint??!! Wow! How talented you are!
The Kathleen Norris books look so pretty underneath your painting. I’d like to think that the same person donated the set and would be thrilled to know that her (or her mother’s or grandmother’s) clearly loved books had found a new, warm, happy home! xoxo
