Kitchen Cabinet into A Child’s Desk

August 3, 2015 Rachel 5 Comments

Are you guys ready to get into back to school mode yet? I’m reluctant but making this little portable child’s desk brightened my mood about it a little more… 🙂

I know you, like me, have seen this idea floating around the internets before, but I hadn’t seen it made into an open-able desk, or with holders for all the school supplies! So I made MY version of this desk and I couldn’t be happier!

There is someone else who loves this desk as well…

She is so dang cute I couldn’t resist having her pose with this desk.

She loves being able to draw on the top with chalk, which doesn’t roll away because of the  lip on the edge.

I created this tutorial for eHow, and what I couldn’t mention in the article but can here is that I went to Habitat for Humanity and found SO MANY cabinets worthy of a makeover, but decided on the cherry-face one you saw at the top for ONLY $15!!! All the other materials were things I already had (and you probably do too) EXCEPT for the legs and their mounting plates. That was my splurge at $9 per turned leg + mounting plates (found them at Lowe’s), because I figured $50 for a cute desk like this was a deal.

This is the perfect size for a small room, but as she gets older all I have to do is add legs!

I haven’t been to your site in a while so I’m probably looking like a stalker with all these comments, haha. I just love everything you do! This is such a genius idea and your photos are gorgeous by the way! Pinned 🙂
