First and foremost, can I tell you how EXCITED I am when I found out this morning that my Gray Union Jack Dresser was one of the TOP 3 PICKS for Miss Mustard Seeds favorites from last week’s Furniture Feature Friday? I am so completely floored honored! I also got featured from a couple other fantastic blogs and put their buttons on my sidebar! Thank you, thank you for all the love! It means a lot.
Ok, on to this week’s project. 🙂
French Linen, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…
This past week I picked up a cute old dresser:
It’s not too often I find a piece with such great ornate details. I loved it. I didn’t really love the color, or the mismatch knobs on the top drawer.
It didn’t take me long to decide French Linen was the color for this highboy, with Old White for details. I loved that this one required very little repair work. I glued and clamped the back of one drawer, then we wiped all the drawer insides with wipe-on poly to give them a better smell and added protection. The wood inside was actually in great shape.
Later in the week I bought a couple more dressers and the girl GAVE me a box full of vintage ceramic knobs!! I LOVE GENEROUS PEOPLE! Anyhow, we were debating between glass knobs (which would have been so pretty also) and refinishing the original metal ones, when I remembered these ceramic ones! And voila! They are perfect!
I have a confession. I am not good at original ideas. I study and research and memorize and copy as best as I can from other more talented people. For example: the vignettes I’ve started to get a little better at? I seriously study the pros like Miss Mustard Seed, Shaunna from Perfectly Imperfect, everything in Cottages Magazine, and of course, decor pins on Pinterest. Then I go to thrift stores, flea markets, antique markets which shapes, colors, motifs in my mind and browse until I find something that catches my eye.
This week I found this cute silver train bank and some old books for way cheap that I tore the covers off and bound with string.
I also found this adorable little porcelain pitcher. I have a crush on white pitchers. And that bunch of little white flowers? I didn’t have time to run to the store, so I went outside and picked what was growing on our hill. They could be weeds for all I know, but they are pretty! ha!
It was Bruno’s idea to paint the grooves white and NOT dark wax this beauty. He was right on the money.
So proud to get this one done and ready to sell!I think it would look so cute in a little girl’s nursery, don’t you?
