Perfect for Spring: Apron Strings

March 19, 2014 Rachel 13 Comments

Wanna know what the perfect spring dresser looks like?!?

TA DA!!
I actually posted a quick pic on Instagram a week or so ago right after I finished the hand-painted front. This color, Apron Strings (Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint) has some AWESOME color variation: from a raspberry color to coral to straight up orange. It darkened A LOT after wax was rubbed in, so if you saw that pic I posted, you will notice how much darker this is. But I still love it so.
Love the legs on this one… AND the wooden casters.
This was my own free-hand design. This is NOT a stencil. I drew the design I wanted with chalk first, then went over it with Chalk Paint in Old White.
There wasn’t a lot of peeling and major chipping from the milk paint, but when I distressed it with a fine grit sponge, some areas wore off easier than others. I love how it turned out.

We did LOTS of repairs on this one. Two layers of veneer were removed on top, drawers were glued and clamped, drawer glides were installed (some were missing their originals). We got her functioning well, but didn’t spent too much time trying to make her perfect. Because she’s old! She doesn’t need to be free from flaws to be beautiful!
I had a fun time at the florist today, picking out some sweet stems to photograph with this gal.

*Sigh*

She will be coming to St Louis Vintage Market Days, so if you want to see her in person, make sure you come early on Friday, before she is sold (I think she will go quickly). 🙂

If you love this color and want a chance to win a bag of it for FREE plus another color of your choice (or Chalk Paint if you prefer), head over to my Spring Giveaway and enter HERE!

You did a great job and it’s a great idea to draw with chalk first. I do it on walls at times. Very Italian that pink.
    Cheers,

Your hand-drawn design is lovely. 🙂 I’ve not thought of the possibility of using chalk paint layered over milk paint! Great job!

She is beautiful. I haven’t seen Apron Strings in person, but it looks like a very versatile color. Your design is terrific. I saw your link at Miss Mustard Seed. Ann Marie @ Iris Abbey
