Good morning! I’m thrilled to be done with my latest mini-makeover: my summer patio refresh! We had crazy amounts of rain over the weekend, but things cleared up just in time for me to take some pictures. If you have followed my blog for awhile, you know that the navy/aqua/white and natural wood color palette is having a major moment in and around my home. So it was perfectly timed that World Market has a newly launched Seaside Modern Collection that motivated me to give the patio a refresh since my fall patio makeover.
I started with a mood board, as I often do with a room or space makeover, just to keep me on track when I went into the store. I tend to get a the “squirrel” syndrome when I walk in there! haha
I chose to use my existing furniture and update them with new cushions and pillows. This is more cost effective, and is a great option if the outdoor furniture you have is in good shape.
I wanted one large pattern to dominate, which was the outdoor rug, and then use those colors in smaller patterns or solid colors throughout the rest of the space. A couple of garden stools as tables makes things versatile and inexpensive as well! In fact, I just took a seagrass tray I had, put it on top of the navy garden stool, tied it in place with some twine, and it became a great place to put snacks and drinks!
These cute acrylic cups I got for my front porch refresh, and I love them back here too!
I also updated the wicker chairs I already had last week, by re-coating them. I did a video tutorial HERE.
Here is another shot of what they looked like before:
And now they look practically new, and so fresh with some new cushions, pillows, and a throw!
For the other side of the patio, I put a couple of these white and cedar outdoor chairs which are perfect alongside a new fire pit I built. More on that later! 🙂
What a transformation right?! I’m still thinking to add a couple more things for summer, but I needed a little more time to work on them, so I’ll share as I go!

Looks so amazing Rachel. I especially love those cedar & white chairs with the fire pit you built 😉
What a lovely space! It looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing how you built that fire pit.
Oh…and where did you get that rug? It’s beautiful!
Terry it is from World Market and it’s only $40 for that large size!
I LOVE what you have done. So inviting!!!!
Tell me about the wooden structure holding the canvas cover.
Are you talking about the pergola? It was installed before we bought the house but it is made from metal actually and believe they originally got it from Lowes. We love it!
Love what you’ve done. The rug I can’t find it at World Market do you have the name/style?
Thanks!
Yup it’s the blue and white reversible Pacifica outdoor mat. Under outdoor rugs you will find it.
Great job Rachel. Looks like a space I would like to hang out in after a long day 🙂
Wow, the update definitely brought a lot of color and life into the area! I think the blue colors really go well with the overhead cover and the color of the wicker furniture. Thanks for sharing.
This is just further proof to me that you’re my style soul sista. I originally chose that exact rug and those pillows with that throw too! It’s absolutely gorgeous, Rachel. And that pergola is amazing!
Really beautiful outdoor furniture! I promised my cousin to help decorate the patio of her new house. I believe she will like these too.
Blue and white look really gorgeous together.
I did this today on a old wicker ppatio set and it came out amazing! Thank you for taking time to do this tutorial. Everything worked out perfect and was a fun project.
